About Us
Information about Lead: When present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health concerns, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead in tap water primarily comes from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. Columbus Light & Water is responsible for delivering high-quality municipal water but cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components.
When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If concerned about lead in your water, you may want to have it tested. The Mississippi State Department of Health Public Health Laboratory offers lead testing for $10 per sample. Please call 601-576-7582 to arrange testing.
Fluoridation Information: To comply with the "Regulation Governing Fluoridation of Community Water Supplies," Columbus Light & Water must report certain results related to our system's fluoridation. During the previous calendar year, fluoride routine results were within the optimal range of 0.7-1.3 ppm for the first 12 weeks, with 100% of samples falling within this target range.
SPECIAL POPULATIONS: Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. Immunocompromised persons—including those undergoing cancer treatment, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly, and infants—can be particularly susceptible to infections. These individuals should seek advice about municipal water from their healthcare providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available via the Safe Drinking Water Hotline: 1-800-426-4791.
At Columbus Light & Water, we work around the clock to deliver quality water to every tap. Please contact our office with any concerns. We ask all customers to help us protect our water sources—they are the heart of our community, our way of life, and our children's future.
