Certain individuals may have heightened vulnerability to contaminants in tap water compared to the general public. Those with compromised immune systems – including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS, certain elderly persons, and infants – face increased risk. These vulnerable populations should consult healthcare providers regarding their water consumption.

EPA/CDC guidelines for reducing infection risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).

Our water originates from two primary surface reservoirs upstream from the Pony Creek treatment facility: Upper Horse Creek and Merritt Reservoirs. The Upper Pony Creek Reservoir holds an impressive 2 billion gallons, while Merritt Reservoir stores 125 million gallons. Additionally, Joe Ney Reservoir provides a third surface water source with 90 million gallons of storage capacity.

Coos Bay North Bend Water Board Municipal Water Report Info

We encourage you to explore our website to better understand the science and processes behind every glass of water from your tap. Many ask about the Water Board's relationship to Coos Bay and North Bend cities, wondering if we're a municipal department.

Understanding our history helps clarify our current structure. The Bay Area's public water system began in 1897 as the Marshfield Water Company, later becoming Coos Bay Water Corporation – both privately owned entities. In 1947, Coos Bay and North Bend jointly purchased the water system and established the Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board through their City Charters.

Today, we continue operating as a non-profit municipal water provider governed by a four-member board of directors, with two representatives appointed from each city serving four-year terms. We welcome your questions and feedback – after all, this is your community water utility!
