Del City became part of Oklahoma in 1948, fulfilling George Epperly's vision. The city was named after his daughter Delphinia. The Del City Historical Society formed in 1975 with Andy Evans as its inaugural president. Several children of the Eighty-niners (89ers) still resided in the area, helping identify original properties within city limits. Residents also discovered their community sat along the 1870s Arbuckle Trail, a historic cattle route from Texas to Kansas.
