About Us
Is my water safe? The City of Dixon is pleased to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). This report provides information about your water source, its contents, and how it compares to standards set by regulatory agencies.
Dixon Public Works is committed to providing transparent information because informed residents are our best allies. Should certain individuals take special precautions? Yes - some people may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. This includes immunocompromised individuals such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, some elderly residents, and infants.
These individuals should seek advice about municipal water from their healthcare providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to reduce infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Water Drinking Hotline (800-426-4791).
Where does our water come from? The Dixon Water Department supplies citizens with groundwater from seven wells ranging in depth from 1,600 to 1,800 feet. These wells are strategically located throughout the city - two on the north side and five on the south side.
The Illinois EPA has completed a source water assessment for our supply. Based on their analysis, Dixon's Community Water Supply source water is not susceptible to contamination. This determination considers several criteria including well monitoring, entry point testing, and available hydrogeologic data.
Additionally, in anticipation of the EPA's proposed Ground Water Rule, the Illinois EPA has determined that Dixon's water supply is not susceptible to viral contamination. All municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate a health risk.

Dixon Drinking Water Company and EPADixon Municipal Water Report Information
By voter decision in November 2014, the City of Dixon established an administrative form of government. This governance model combines strong political leadership from elected officials with robust managerial expertise from an appointed administrator. All policy-setting authority rests with the elected governing body, including the mayor and council members, who then hire a neutral manager with broad organizational oversight powers.
This administrative structure emerged from the Progressive Reform Movement at the turn of the 20th century, designed to combat corruption and unethical practices in local government. The system promotes effective management within a transparent, responsive, and accountable framework. Since its establishment, this governance model has become the most prevalent form of local government across the United States and is widely implemented throughout Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
