Wellhead Protection Program
The source of your tap water is groundwater supplied by wells located near our community. The wells are completed in a Sand & Gravel Aquifer located adjacent to the White River. To help protect this aquifer from potential sources of contamination, Eastern Heights Utilities is implementing a Wellhead Protection Plan, which was approved by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) in November of 2001.
As your water utility, we work diligently to provide top quality water to every tap. We ask that all our customers help us protect our groundwater resource, which is the heart of our community, our way of life and our children's future. For more information about protecting this resource, refer to the household tips included in this report or call the Utility at (812) 384-8261.

Water Meters
Eastern Heights Utilities is pleased to announce that the water meter reading system has been working effectively. Your cooperation in protecting the water meters has been greatly appreciated. Please continue to be careful and avoid damaging the meters. Here are some basic instructions to follow for proper water meter functioning:
- The meter lids must be assessable at all times.
- Vehicles must not be parked over the meters.
- Meter lids must remain in place for safety reasons and to ensure accurate readings.
- Use caution when mowing. Mowing over a meter lid may cause damage to the meter and mowing equipment.
- The cost to repair or replace a meter, up to $300, could be assessed for negligent actions.
Household Tips for Protecting Our Municipal Water Supply
- Reduce the amount of fertilizers, pesticides, and other hazardous chemicals that you use.
- Buy only what you need so that you don't have to dispose of leftovers.
- Read all the labels and follow directions.
- Recycle used oil, automobile fluids, batteries, and other products.
- Don't dispose of hazardous products in toilets, storm drains, wastewater systems, creeks, alleys, or the ground.
- Utilize the Greene County Solid Waste Management District's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center located in Switz City. The Center is located approximately 1/4-mile south of S.R. 54 and S.R. 57 and 1/4-mile west on Base Line Road. Call (812) 659-3788 to schedule an appointment.
