German Township Water District Inc. Municipal Water Company and EPAGerman Township Water District Inc. Municipal Water Report Info
This organization is registered as a Not-For-Profit rural water utility with the State of Indiana, responsible for delivering potable water to areas without municipal services.
Established in 1976, the district initially served 850 customers in northwestern Vanderburgh County's German Township area. All water is supplied by the city of Evansville through a 50-year agreement.
In 1993, a significant expansion extended service into eastern Posey County from SR 62 to West Franklin along the Ohio River, known as the Marrs Township extension. The utility now reaches from eastern Posey County to within one mile of Mount Vernon and along Highway 66 to within 2 miles of New Harmony, serving over 4600 connections.
The office operates with full automation, handling meter reading, billing and accounting internally. Except for major projects, company staff perform all construction and maintenance. The I.U.R.C. (Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission) oversees rules and rates. In its 30-year history, the company has never implemented a general rate increase, though limited monitoring rates have been added due to cost increases from Evansville. Marrs Township received 8% rate reductions in both 2004 and 2015 following early bond repayments. Rate information is available at the office.
