Wisconsin Water Utility Companies

The Franklin Water Utility delivers treated water to approximately 8,200 customers throughout the community. In 2017, our water quality monitoring identified several contaminants, all of which tested below federal and state regulatory limits.

Each year, we conduct nearly 3,000 tests for approximately 150 potential contaminants. The Wisconsin Division of Natural Resources permits less frequent monitoring for certain substances when their concentrations remain consistently stable. The data presented here reflects testing from 2017, with 2018 results becoming available in our next annual report.

Health Information: Municipal water, including bottled varieties, may contain small amounts of certain contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For detailed information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA Safe Municipal Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.

Certain populations may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than others. Individuals with compromised immune systems (such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, elderly persons, and infants) should consult healthcare providers about their tap water consumption. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risks from cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Municipal Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

Lead and Copper Information: Franklin Water Utility has never failed any heavy metal testing, including lead. Since our inception, we've maintained strict design standards for our infrastructure. If present, elevated lead levels can pose serious health risks, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead exposure may cause developmental delays in children, attention deficits, and learning disabilities. Adults with long-term exposure might develop kidney problems or hypertension.

Lead in municipal water primarily comes from materials in older service lines and household plumbing. While we provide high-quality water, we cannot control the components used in residential plumbing systems. To minimize potential lead exposure, flush your tap for at least 30 seconds (preferably two minutes) after water has been sitting for several hours, especially before using it for drinking or cooking. If concerned, consider water testing. More information is available at www.EPA.gov/safe water/lead. Our most recent lead and copper results date from September 6, 2014.
