The H2OwnIt yard nomination program recognizes properties that exemplify efficient water usage in Goodyear. Residents can nominate their own or other yards through the www.goodyearaz.gov/h2o365 portal. Judges evaluate proper maintenance, design elements, plant selection, and water conservation practices to select quarterly winners.

Winners receive yard signs, city recognition, and are featured on the city website. This program highlights real examples of beautiful, water-efficient landscaping that other residents can learn from. To participate, enhance your yard's appearance, document improvements, monitor water usage, and submit your nomination when available.

Summer heat significantly increases water consumption and costs. The average Goodyear household uses about 6,000 gallons monthly during winter. Adding just 2,000 gallons for summer irrigation increases water charges by nearly 70%, while wasting an additional 4,000 gallons can triple your bill.

Goodyear's municipal water is 100% groundwater sourced from the West Salt Valley Sub-Basin aquifer, which ranges from 80 to 1,000 feet below surface. The city maintains 10 well sites (four with storage tanks) and five booster stations, providing 10.1 million gallons of storage capacity.

As water travels through ground or over land surfaces, it dissolves minerals and can pick up contaminants from animal activity or human development. The EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. Immunocompromised individuals, cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, and certain elderly or infant populations may be particularly vulnerable to waterborne contaminants and should consult healthcare providers about their drinking water.

CIPP Rehabilitation Project FAQs

  1. Why is this work being performed?
After thorough inspection, we've identified serious microbial induced corrosion (MIC) in specific pipeline segments. Early intervention allows us to use cost-effective "trenchless repair" rather than conventional excavation methods.
  2. What are the contractor's working hours?
Most cleaning, inspection, and manhole repair occurs during daylight hours. However, once lining begins, work must continue until completion and curing (up to 72 continuous hours). Bypass systems operate 24 hours daily with remote monitoring when crews aren't present. Local police will increase patrols around work areas.
  3. Will this affect my property's sewer service?
You shouldn't notice any changes to your sewer system if you follow the temporary water use restrictions. The contractor has established emergency protocols for any unexpected situations.
  4. What traffic impacts should I expect?
Most improvements occur underground with minimal disruption. However, depending on manhole locations and bypass system placement, motorists may encounter lane restrictions or detours near active work zones. Construction vehicle traffic will increase in the area.
  5. Will mail delivery or trash collection be affected?
Project teams will coordinate with the Post Office and waste collection services to prevent service disruptions. If collection points need temporary relocation, crews will work directly with affected residents and businesses.
  6. Is construction noise a concern?
Equipment must use backup alarms per OSHA requirements. Stationary equipment operating for extended periods near homes will have sound enclosures to reduce noise levels. Bypass pumps and other fixed equipment operate at maximum 70 decibels (equivalent to a telephone dial tone) when measured from 50 feet away.
  7. Is styrene from the pipe lining process safe?
Styrene has a very low odor threshold detectable at just 0.14 parts per million, far below OSHA safety limits (100 ppm for 8-hour exposure). This project maintains styrene levels within OSHA and NIOSH safety standards. Goodyear has used CIPP technology since 1992 without health incidents. The resin material contains the same plastic used in transportation, construction, marine and clothing industries.
