Grand Island Town Water Department Municipal Water Report Info

Grand Island is nestled in the Niagara River between Canada and the United States, between Buffalo and Niagara Falls. This island, comparable in size to Manhattan, features abundant trees, parks, charming eateries, trails, kayak launches, boat marinas, and peaceful residential neighborhoods.

Despite its serene environment, Grand Island is conveniently located just 10 minutes from Niagara Falls (whose mist is visible over the northwestern portion), 10 minutes from Buffalo's Sabers games, and 10 minutes from the region's finest shopping and cultural institutions. Throughout its history, Grand Island has served as a resort destination for local dignitaries like Grover Cleveland, a lumber hub famous for white oaks, and even a historic battleground at Burnt Ship Creek.

Today, while still embracing elements of its past, Grand Island is primarily home to over 20,000 residents who proudly call this community their own. Looking forward, the island aims to establish itself as a center for conservation, health, and wellness in Western New York. The entire community eagerly anticipates welcoming visitors to experience life on Grand Island.

Grand Island Town Water Department Municipal Water Company and CDC
  1. Can I pull a permit for work completed on my own property? Yes! You can obtain any permit for work done on your home. If you're hiring a contractor for any portion of the work, we strongly recommend having them secure the permit. This allows us to hold them accountable for any improperly completed work. There's no time or cost advantage for homeowner permits versus contractor permits.
  2. When are Winter taxes due? Winter taxes can be paid from December 1 through February 14 without penalty. After February 14, a 3% late fee applies through February 28. If these dates fall on weekends or holidays, payments will be accepted on the next business day. On March 1, all unpaid taxes are forwarded as "delinquent" to the Macomb County Treasurer, who will assess additional penalties.
  3. What is the Township's fiscal year? The Township operates on a fiscal year running from July 1 through June 30.
  4. When are Summer taxes due? Summer taxes are payable July 1 through September 14 without penalty. After September 15, a 1% penalty applies through September 30. An additional 1% penalty accumulates monthly from October 1 through February 28. If these dates fall on weekends or holidays, payments will be accepted on the next business day. Partial payments received without penalty will be applied accordingly, with penalties continuing to accrue on outstanding balances. Failure to receive your tax bill does not waive interest or penalties.
  5. Do I need to register my dog? Yes. Please visit Macomb County Animal Control for registration details.
  6. How and when can I access the Township budget report? The Township budget process begins with department heads submitting preliminary budgets to the Township Supervisor annually. These are then reviewed at the Supervisor's discretion, and a proposed budget is presented to the Township Board of Trustees. The budget must be adopted at a public meeting held before July 1 each year. You can view the Most Recent Township Budget online.
