The Town of Mount Pleasant is situated in Westchester County, New York approximately 30 miles north of New York City. Its boundaries include the Towns of New Castle and Ossining to the north, Greenburgh to the south, Kensico Reservoir and North Castle to the east, and the Hudson River to the west.
Within Mount Pleasant are the incorporated villages of Pleasantville, Sleepy Hollow, and a portion of Briarcliff Manor. The unincorporated areas include Hawthorne, Thornwood, Valhalla and Pocantico Hills. According to the 2000 Census, the town's population is 43,221.
The landscape features gently rolling hills with substantial open areas including state, county and local parks, watershed protection lands, and several cemeteries. The Pocantico River and Lake flow through the town from north to south before emptying into the Hudson River at Kingsland Point Park in Sleepy Hollow. The town's largest water body, Kensico Reservoir, forms the eastern boundary with North Castle.
Mount Pleasant is primarily residential with single-family homes, apartments and estates. Most residents work within Westchester County or commute to New York City. The town hosts several large office parks, New York Life Insurance Company, PepsiCo, Inc., Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc., and Rockefeller family estates.
Two major medical facilities serve the area: Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla and Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow. New York Medical College is located at the Westchester Medical Center, while Pace University's Pleasantville campus is on Bedford Road.

- What are the current water rates? 1 unit equals 100 cubic feet or 748 gallons of water.
- I'm selling my house, how do I handle my final bill? When selling property, it's essential to finalize all water and sewer charges with the seller. To prevent unnecessary charges transferring to the buyer, request a final water/sewer reading to show complete payment of all previous charges under the seller's name. The process is:
- The buyer, seller, or real estate agent requests a Final Water and Sewer Bill application by downloading the Final Bill Request Form
- Submit the completed form via email to Tameka.Walsh@ci.Everett.Ma.Us or in person at the Everett Water Department offices at 19 Norman St., Everett, MA 02149. For questions, call 617-394-2325
- A meter technician must obtain a reading from the internal water meter within 2 weeks of closing. The applicant must arrange access to the meter. A $150.00 fee will be added to the final bill
- Why does my property have low water pressure? Typically, low pressure results from internal plumbing issues. If limited to one faucet, try removing the aerator.
- Who is responsible for maintaining and repairing the water service pipe? Refer to the Water Department Rules and Regulations PDF available on our website.
- Why do I have high water consumption? Common causes include leaky toilets, faucets, and garden hoses. Even small undetected leaks can significantly increase water usage.
- How do I check for leaks on my property? Ensure all residents stop using water for at least 30 minutes, then check if your water meter dial has moved.
