Westchester County WD #2 Municipal Water Company and CDC
- Where can I view Westchester County's water catalog? The new catalog is accessible at beam.Ent.Sirsi.Internet. Our facility maintains three public catalogs in the adult section and one stand-up catalog near the non-fiction collection. Two additional catalogs are available in the children's area.
- Why can I only find Westchester County items in the catalog? After thorough assessment of available options, the Westchester County WD #2 Board determined at their August 14, 2014 public meeting that maintaining a local-only catalog best serves current and future customers. This change ensures greater availability of resources for visitors to our facilities, increasing the likelihood of finding new, popular, and well-maintained materials on shelves for immediate checkout. Popular formats such as Large Print books, audiobooks, and DVDs are also more readily accessible.
- What happened to the regional sharing system? In March 2014, the Mid-Wisconsin Federated Library System Board notified member libraries of their decision to "terminate the shared automation agreement between the Lakeshores Library System and Mid-Wisconsin" after careful consideration. This led to disconnection from the SHARE consortia on November 20, 2014. Mid-Wisconsin now hosts the new trio consortia including 26 of 27 member libraries. The Westchester County WD #2 Board opted not to join the trio consortia following comprehensive evaluation of available options, launching a standalone catalog on January 22, 2015.
- Is there a financial advantage to this change? As noted in the July 18, 2014 Board minutes, the standalone system provides Westchester County WD #2 with predictable annual costs projected seven years ahead, facilitating long-term budget planning. This option also gives the Board direct control over expenses rather than deferring to a consortia. The deadline for transitioning to a standalone system was mid-August, before trio consortia agreements, formulas, and bylaws were finalized. The Board anticipates initial costs comparable to trio membership, with savings realized over time through autonomous purchasing decisions.
- Can I still access materials from other libraries? Yes, a librarian can request items on your behalf, or you can submit requests directly through the statewide resource sharing catalog called WISCAT. Westchester County WD #2 is among 550+ Wisconsin Library Catalogs available for searching, with items borrowed and lent daily through the interlibrary loan system. As a member of the Mid-Wisconsin Federation, our library participates fully in resource sharing networks.
