Kentucky Water Utility Companies

The Grayson municipality began treating and distributing potable water to residents in 1931. Since those early days, our treatment capacity has expanded dramatically from 100,000 gallons daily to our current 3.0 million gallons per day capability.

Today, Grayson Utilities Commission serves approximately 4,200 customers, comprising 3,700 residential accounts, 500 industrial clients, and 2 major commercial customers. Our distribution network includes 190 miles of various-sized water lines, 7 strategically placed water storage tanks, and 10 booster pump stations that maintain adequate pressure throughout our service area.

Following the completion of the AA Highway in 1998, our service territory expanded significantly with new line extensions along the highway corridor. Additional expansions reached Everman's Creek and Iron Hill communities. Further growth occurred in 2000 with grant funding that extended water service to Hannah Street, Wilson Creek Road, and Pactolus areas north of Grayson.

In 2001, we secured additional grant and loan funding to serve multiple areas in Carter and Greenup Counties, including Salem Road, Sutton Road, James Road, Colen Branch Road, and Tygarts Creek Road in Peterson County, plus Three Prong Road (KY-784) and Leatherwood in Greenup County.

Infrastructure improvements continued in 2007 with new water lines on Zornes Branch and upgraded lines on Stinson Creek and Canoe Run. This project included replacing the aging Sunset Hill booster pump station and outdated water lines along Shady Road, Hickory Road, and Town Branch.

Our Heaven Hill Water tank, constructed in 1971, stands 70 feet tall with a 60,000-gallon capacity. In September 2014, we had the exterior professionally repainted by Preferred Tank and Tower Company, which specializes in tank maintenance and repair, adding "GRAYSON" to its exterior.
