The District is located approximately 28 miles northwest of Houston's central business district and about four miles northwest of Tomball, Texas. Situated entirely within Harris County and the exclusive extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Houston, the District falls completely within the Klein Independent School District boundaries.
Created by an Order of the Texas Water Rights Commission (predecessor to the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality) on May 31, 1972, the District began development in 1973. Voters approved the consolidation with Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 35 on August 13, 1994.
Currently, the District encompasses 1001.12 acres with an additional 93.57 acres being added as the Lakes at Creekside Subdivision. Of the existing acreage, approximately 747 acres have been developed into 2,568 residential lots.
The District operates two water well plants pumping an average of 17,233,000 gallons during winter months (Oct-Mar) and 32,490,000 gallons during summer months (Apr-Sep). This system includes approximately 44 miles of water lines serving the community.
Two separate wastewater treatment plants are owned and operated by the District. The #1 treatment plant can process 950 mgd while the #2 plant handles 110 mgd. Five active lift stations throughout the District support these facilities.
In 2010, the District completed a comprehensive 3-year maintenance program, inspecting and repairing sewer lines in subdivisions built during the 1970s and 1980s (Londonderry, Wimbledon Country, and Traditions).
To ensure continuous service during emergencies, backup generators have been installed at both water plants, the wastewater treatment facility, and all lift stations. The District may also implement its Drought Contingency Plan to conserve water supply and protect infrastructure, particularly for residential use, sanitation, and fire protection.
