About Us
This report aims to educate customers about the quality of municipal water delivered daily to your taps. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems to ensure safety.
Our water comes from six wells tapping into the pristine Floridian Aquifer, which supplies most of North Florida's water systems. After extraction, the water undergoes aeration to eliminate hydrogen sulfide odors, followed by chlorine disinfection before distribution.
In 2017, the Department of Environmental Protection conducted a Water Assessment of our system, identifying 15 potential contamination sources with low to moderate susceptibility levels. These results are accessible at www.dep.state.fl.us/swapp.
Jacksonville Beach regularly monitors water quality through citywide sampling for bacteriological and chemical components, adhering to Federal and State regulations. We also protect our supply through our Cross Connection/Backflow Prevention Program.
This report covers monitoring conducted from January 1 through December 31, 2017. For questions about this information, please contact:
- Jacksonville Beach Water Plant: (904) 247-6278
- EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline: (800) 426-4791

TYPES OF CONTAMINANTS
Municipal water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, ponds, springs, and wells. Water can contain naturally-occurring minerals, radioactive materials, and substances from animal presence or human activity, including:
- Microbial Contaminants - viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment, septic systems, agriculture, and wildlife
- Inorganic Contaminants - salts and metals (natural or from stormwater runoff, wastewater discharge, oil/gas production)
- Pesticides and Herbicides - from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
- Organic Chemical Contaminants - synthetic and volatile organics from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations
- Radioactive Contaminants - naturally-occurring or from oil/gas production and mining
IMPORTANT HEALTH INFORMATION
Immunocompromised individuals, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly persons, and infants may be particularly vulnerable to waterborne infections. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding municipal water consumption.
If present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health complications, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead typically comes from service lines and home plumbing materials. While Jacksonville Beach provides high-quality water, we cannot control plumbing component materials. To minimize potential lead exposure, flush your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. For concerns about lead in your water, consider testing. More information is available at http://www.epa.gov/safe-water/lead.
