Is your water safe to consume? We're pleased to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act. This document provides information about your water source, its contents, and how it compares to standards set by regulatory agencies.

Last year, we conducted tests for over 60 potential contaminants. We identified one Entry Point in our Distribution System with nitrate levels exceeding EPA allowances. We promptly notified customers when our water temporarily exceeded standards.

Special Health Considerations: Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. People with compromised immune systems, including those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS, elderly persons, and infants should seek medical advice about their water consumption. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Water Drinking Hotline (800-426-4791).

Water Source Information: Groundwater is our sole supply source for PWS 11-128, located within the Phoenix Active Management Area. A Source Water Assessment is available through the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality by contacting the Arizona Source Water Manager at (602) 771-4641. The assessment indicates our water system has a low risk classification.

Understanding Water Contaminants: As water moves through the environment, it can collect various substances:

• Microbial contaminants from sewage treatment, septic systems, livestock, and wildlife
• Inorganic contaminants including naturally-occurring minerals and substances from urban runoff, industrial discharges, and agriculture
• Pesticides and herbicides from agricultural, urban, and residential sources
• Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
• Radioactive materials that occur naturally or result from resource extraction activities

Water Treatment Process: Our water undergoes disinfection through the addition of chlorine or other approved disinfectants to eliminate harmful bacteria and microorganisms. This process is recognized as one of the most significant public health advancements of the 20th century.

Water Conservation Tips: The average U.S. household uses approximately 400 gallons of water daily. Simple changes can make a significant difference:

• Take shorter showers (5 minutes uses 4-5 gallons versus 40 gallons for a bath)
• Turn off water while brushing teeth or shaving to save up to 500 gallons monthly
• Install water-efficient showerheads to save up to 750 gallons monthly
• Run appliances only when full to save up to 1,000 gallons monthly
• Water plants only when necessary
• Fix leaky fixtures promptly

4. What chemicals are added to my water? We only use chemicals approved by the National Safety Foundation specifically for municipal water treatment.
5. My water tastes and smells unusual. Is it safe? All public water systems maintain minimum disinfectant levels as required by federal regulations. Our disinfectant levels undergo daily testing to ensure safety.
6. Why do particles appear when running hot water? Your water heater likely needs flushing. CAUTION: Manufacturers typically recommend hiring a professional for this maintenance. If attempting this yourself, carefully review the owner's manual to prevent injury or damage.
