Scottsdale Water is committed to delivering safe, reliable municipal water to residents every day of the year. Our mission is to provide high-quality water at reasonable rates with exceptional customer service. This annual report summarizes our commitment to that goal.

Water is especially precious in our desert environment. Beyond ensuring water safety, we focus on maintaining a sustainable water supply for current and future generations. Through innovative aquifer recharge programs and strategic planning, Scottsdale became Arizona's first city to achieve safe yield—returning more water to the aquifer than we withdraw—and has maintained this status since 2006, nearly twenty years ahead of state requirements.

Scottsdale's water system incorporates surface water, groundwater, and an increasing amount of recycled water. Depending on seasonal factors, weather conditions, and customer demand, your home may receive water from a single source or a blend of sources.

Our primary surface water comes from the Colorado River, transported through the Central Arizona Project canal to the Chandler CAP Water Treatment Plant. We also receive surface water from the Salt River Project, originating from the Verde and Salt rivers and treated at the Chaparral Water Treatment Plant. Both facilities employ advanced technology to ensure superior water quality.

In addition to these surface sources, your water may come from one of the city's 23 active wells that tap into deep underground aquifers. This groundwater is properly disinfected before entering the distribution system and may receive additional treatment as needed.

As water travels to our treatment plants or through aquifers, it collects naturally occurring minerals that increase water "hardness." While hardness isn't considered a health concern or regulated by water quality standards, it can affect taste and other characteristics. We've evaluated additional treatment processes to address hardness but determined they aren't cost-effective, especially considering that most residential water consumption is for outdoor use.

In 2005, Scottsdale collaborated with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality to assess potential risks to our water sources, including gas stations, landfills, dry cleaners, agricultural operations, and sewage treatment facilities. The assessment found most of Scottsdale's groundwater wells have low to medium risk, except wells near the North Indian Bend Wash Superfund Site. Water from these higher-risk wells undergoes treatment to meet or exceed standards and is closely monitored by the city, ADEQ, and EPA.

3. Does the city have a leash law? Yes. The city's Animal Control Regulations (Chapter 6-2, City of Montrose Municipal Code) requires that pet owners keep their dogs on a leash at all times when not on their own property. Missed pickups are typically due to one of the following: - Failure to get the container to the street by 6:00 a.m. - Obstructions, such as vehicles, that block access to the container - Overfilled containers and/or prohibited items - Holiday service interruptions.
