This year's water quality report covers all testing conducted from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017, fulfilling both EPA and Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) requirements for a "Consumer Confidence Report." This document represents our ongoing commitment to keep you informed about your water quality and the services we provide daily.
We remain dedicated to delivering municipal water that meets all state and federal standards. This report contains information about your water source, its contents, and how it compares to EPA quality standards. Rest assured, Kent County Water Authority and our professional team are committed to providing our customers with the finest, most cost-effective and reliable municipal water possible.
Kent County Water Authority has been delivering safe, dependable water 24/7 for 138 years. We continuously seek innovative methods to improve water quality while meeting emerging challenges. Understanding the facts about your water quality is essential. The data in this report reflects actual results from regulatory testing requirements.
Our monitoring has detected some regulated constituents, but EPA and RIDOH guidance confirms the water is SAFE at these levels. This report explains your water quality, sources, system overview, and our future goals.

The Kent County Water Authority and its professional staff are dedicated to providing our valued customers with the highest quality, most cost-effective and reliable municipal water. We continually strive to adopt improved methods for delivering superior water quality to you. As new water quality challenges emerge, we remain vigilant in meeting these demands while serving our customers' needs.
The Authority currently supplies retail water services to residential, commercial, industrial and other customers within Kent County and portions of Cranston, Scituate and a small area of North Kingstown. Kent County encompasses approximately 172 square miles south of Providence, including the towns of Coventry, East Greenwich, West Greenwich, West Warwick and Warwick City.
Our customer base consists of:
- Residential accounts (94% of customers, 75% of water sales)
- Industrial and commercial accounts (5% of customers, 20% of water sales)
- Public agencies and other accounts (remaining customer base and water sales)
The Authority is governed by a seven-member Board representing the interests of our community customer base. Two members are appointed by each town/city council in Warwick, West Warwick and Coventry, with one member appointed by East Greenwich. Each serves a 7-year term.
Our water system includes approximately 457 miles of distribution and transmission mains, four active storage tanks, two main transmission pumping facilities, four pressure booster stations, four wells, one 2.4 million gallon daily groundwater treatment plant, and 2,395 public fire hydrants plus 633 private fire hydrants.
The current distribution system is divided into eight distinct pressure zones, each operating at a set hydraulic gradient to maintain proper service pressure. Approximately 80% of our water supply comes from wholesale purchase from the Providence Water Supply Board's Scituate Reservoir, with the remaining 20% produced from our own gravel-packed wells.
