About Us
We are pleased to present our Annual Water Quality Report for 2017. This document provides vital information about your water quality and the services we deliver daily. (Este informe contiene información muy importante sobre su agua potable. Tradúzcalo o hable con alguien que lo entienda bien).
Our primary mission is providing residents with safe, reliable municipal water. We continuously work to enhance our treatment processes and protect our water sources. The water we supply comes from surface water sources that naturally contain dissolved minerals and may pick up substances from wildlife, agricultural operations, or human activities.
Potential contaminants in source water include:
- Microbial Contaminants - viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, and agricultural operations
- Inorganic Contaminants - naturally occurring salts and metals or those resulting from urban runoff, industrial discharge, or agricultural operations
- Pesticides and Herbicides - from agricultural activities, urban runoff, and residential use
- Organic Chemical Contaminants - byproducts of industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
- Radioactive Contaminants - naturally occurring or from oil/gas production and mining activities
A Source Water Assessment Plan (SWAP) is available at our office. This plan evaluates potential contamination sources around our water supply and assesses vulnerability. Our system received a 'HIGH' susceptibility rating. Contact us to review this important document.
The EPA sets strict standards for municipal water to ensure safety. If present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead typically comes from service lines and home plumbing components, not the water supply itself. Flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking can minimize potential lead exposure.
Our water quality is regularly monitored according to Federal and State regulations. During 2017, we detected the presence of coliform bacteria above allowable limits, requiring us to conduct three Level 1 assessments and one Level 2 assessment to identify and address potential issues.
Regarding Cryptosporidium, we conducted monthly source water monitoring throughout 2017 with NO DETECTION of this parasite. We continue monitoring in 2018 with no detections to date.
We at NATCHITOCHES WATER SYSTEM work around the clock to deliver quality water to every tap. We appreciate your help in protecting our valuable water resources – they're essential to our community, way of life, and children's future.
