About Us
Substances Found in Municipal Water Sources include various types of contaminants that can affect water quality. Water from sources like rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and wells naturally picks up minerals as it travels across land surfaces or through soil layers. In some cases, it may also collect radioactive material or substances from human and animal activities.
Common contaminants that might be present in source water include:
- Microbial contaminants (bacteria, viruses) from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, and agricultural operations
- Inorganic contaminants (salts, metals) from natural sources, stormwater runoff, or industrial discharges
- Pesticides and herbicides from agricultural activities, urban runoff, and residential usage
- Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and waste systems
- Radioactive contaminants, which can occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining
The EPA establishes limits on contaminant levels in public water systems to ensure safety, while FDA regulations govern bottled water standards. Northeast Morgan County Water & Sewer Authority conducts regular monitoring according to federal and local requirements.
Important Lead Information: Elevated lead levels pose serious health risks, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead primarily enters water through service line materials and household plumbing components. While Northeast Morgan County Water & Sewer Authority provides quality water, they cannot control plumbing materials used in homes. To reduce potential lead exposure, run your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes after water has been sitting before using it for drinking or cooking. For concerns about lead in your water, testing information is available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791) or at www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
All Lead and Copper monitoring from the distribution system in 2016 showed levels below MCL detection limits. The next scheduled monitoring will be conducted June-September 2019. We encourage landlords, businesses, schools, hospitals and other groups to share this important water quality information with water users in their area.

NE Morgan County Water and Sewer Authority Municipal Water Company and CDCHow can I pay my utility bill?
Multiple payment options are available including automatic bank withdrawals, online payments, in-person transactions, or using our convenient drop boxes. Visit our Billing & Payment Info page for complete details.
What TV recording options are available?
We offer various equipment options including HD DVR and Multi-Room DVR systems that enable you to record programs and control live TV with pause, rewind and resume functions. View all equipment options on our website.
Why do emergency broadcasts interrupt my DVR recordings?
Federal regulations mandate that all TV providers interrupt programming for Emergency Broadcast System messages. When public safety officials issue these alerts, your DVR automatically switches to the emergency channel, temporarily pausing any ongoing recordings. Recording resumes in a separate file once the message concludes. Unfortunately, we cannot disable these federally-required messages.
How can I resolve poor TV picture quality?
For digital TVs experiencing pixelation or freezing, inspect all connections between cable outlet, set-top box, and TV. Even slightly loose connections can cause issues. For fuzzy pictures on HD TVs, you may be watching non-HD channels (2-16 and 25-73). These analog channels won't display properly on HD equipment. You'll need a DVR, HD Receiver or EZ HD Tuner to properly display HD signals, with equipment starting at just $5 monthly.
How do I report an electric outage?
Call 319-268-6999 to report power loss anytime. Typically, an operator will personally assist you. During large outages, an automated system helps handle high call volumes. You can also report outages online or through our mobile app.
What should I do if I smell gas?
DO NOT operate light switches. LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY, then call our gas emergency line at 268-5340 any time, day or night.
How can I reduce my utility costs?
Our Energy Service team provides comprehensive home and business energy audits to help conserve energy and save money. We also offer cost-share rebates for energy improvements. Contact us for more information.
Why did I receive a yellow card requesting water remote verification?
Your home has an outdoor meter display that allows our readers to check usage without entering your property. Every three years, we need to verify that indoor meter readings match the outdoor display to ensure accurate billing. You can schedule a verification appointment or check both readings yourself and report them online or by phone.
How do I use the new bill payment envelope?
Cedar Falls Utilities has updated our bill payment envelope. Like the previous version, the new envelope is reusable. Simply follow the enclosed instructions to properly open and reseal the envelope for return payment.
