The Authority is proud to inform all customers that YOUR MUNICIPAL WATER IS SAFE! This annual report provides detailed information about water quality testing conducted from January 1 to December 31, 2017. Our mission is to deliver clean, safe water to every household throughout the year.

Our dedicated staff works tirelessly to achieve this goal. In September 2017, Harvest-Monrovia received multiple prestigious recognitions: the Best Operated Plant Award in Alabama for the Mt. Zion Water Treatment Plant, Best Operated Plant Award for the Burwell Road Water Treatment Plant, and Best Operated Distribution System for 15,001 to 25,500 meters at the annual AWPCA Conference. These awards demonstrate our commitment to excellence and quality service.

Our water comes from eight groundwater wells throughout the system, supplied by the Tuscumbia-Fort Payne Aquifer. Four wells feed our ten-million-gallon daily treatment plant, three others supply our four-million-gallon Membrane Plant, and one well has on-site treatment facilities.

The Authority has developed an ADEM-approved Source Water Protection Plan. Information about potential contamination sources is available at our office, with primary concerns being existing wells, agricultural runoff, and septic systems.

Certain populations may be more vulnerable to water contaminants, including people undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, those with HIV/AIDS or immune disorders, some elderly individuals, and infants. These individuals should seek medical advice about their municipal water consumption.

Regarding lead concerns: elevated lead levels can cause serious health issues, particularly for pregnant women and young children. While Harvest-Monrovia is responsible for providing high-quality water, we cannot control plumbing component materials. After water sits in pipes for several hours, you can minimize potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30-120 seconds before using water for consumption. For more information about lead testing or exposure reduction, contact the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or visit http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Harvest-Monrovia Water System Municipal Water Report Info

The Harvest-Monrovia Water, Sewer and Fire Protection Authority was established on August 2, 1965, with the primary mission of operating and maintaining a water distribution system for residential use in Madison County's Harvest-Monrovia region.

In 2002, recognizing community needs, the Board determined it was time to expand services to include sewer connections in specific areas within their coverage zone. This led to the official name change to Harvest-Monrovia Water, Sewer and Fire Protection Authority, Inc. in March 2003.

From humble beginnings with just 700 initial customers, the Authority has experienced remarkable growth, now serving over 16,000 water meters and approximately 48,000 residents. Technical capabilities have similarly expanded from pumping one million gallons daily to operating two water treatment facilities with a combined capacity of 13 million gallons per day, supported by eight wells and a team that has grown from 2 to 42 employees.

The Authority operates under a Board of Directors appointed by the Madison County Commission for 6-year terms. Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 PM at their headquarters (9131 Wall-Triana Hwy, Harvest, Alabama 35749). While meetings are open to customers and the public, those wishing to address specific concerns should request to be added to the agenda two weeks in advance.

The Authority remains committed to serving the community with high-quality potable water and exceptional service at affordable rates.
