About Us
This year, as in previous years, your tap water has met all US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Illinois health standards for municipal water. Our Village vigilantly safeguards its water supply, continually working to provide the highest quality water possible.
This report summarizes the quality of water provided during the past year, including details about water sources, content, and comparison to standards set by regulatory agencies. We believe informed customers are our best allies in maintaining a safe water system.
If you have questions about this report or our water program, please contact Joe Spain, Water Owner, at 708-453-0800, or visit Village Hall during business hours. You can also attend our regular Town Board Meetings held at Village Hall, 4000 N. Olcott Avenue, at 6:30 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of each month (2nd Wednesday in November & December).
The Village of Norridge purchases all water from the City of Chicago. Lake Michigan serves as the sole source of water for Chicago and 188 suburban communities. Chicago utilizes conventional treatment methods including disinfection, coagulation, sedimentation, and sand filtration to ensure water safety. Norridge adds a small amount of chlorine to meet USEPA requirements.
All municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the USEPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).
Some individuals may be more vulnerable to contaminants than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, elderly individuals, and infants may face increased risk from infections. These individuals should consult their healthcare providers about drinking water. USEPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available from the USEPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline.

The Norridge Village Administrative Offices are located at 4000 N. Olcott Ave. Norridge was incorporated on December 4, 1948, as a village government structure, with a Village Board comprising a President, Village Clerk and six Trustees elected at large.
Geographical Information
The area sits on a Moraine ridge forming a watershed between the Chicago River Valley (east) and Des Plaines River Valley (west). The ridge crown is at Overhill Ave., 7600 west. Elevation: 645-649 feet. Latitude: 41 Degrees, 57 Minutes, 45 Seconds. Longitude: 87 Degrees, 49 Minutes, 30 Seconds. Early Regional History
Norridge borders land once deeded to Chief Chee-Chee-Pin-Qua (translated as "blinking eye"), also known as Alexander Robinson, Chief of the Pottawatomies. In 1843, President John Tyler granted him 1280 acres for helping negotiate treaties between Native Americans and settlers, and for saving the John Kinzie and Captain Nathan Heald families during the Fort Dearborn massacre in the War of 1812. Robinson, son of a Scottish soldier and Ottawa mother, married Catherine Chevalier, daughter of Three Fires Chief Francois Chevalier. Their family home stood along the east side of the Des Plaines River, north of Lawrence Ave. The Robinson family grave site remains in Robinson Forest Preserve at Lawrence and Dee Road.
Norridge Development
In the early 1900s, the area now known as Norridge contained many small truck farms. During the 1930s and 1940s, numerous riding stables operated here due to proximity to Forest Preserves. These were gradually replaced by residential and light commercial development through the late 1940s and 1950s.
Through efforts of the Annexation Improvement Club, Norridge was incorporated by referendum on December 4, 1948, with 578 votes for and 195 against. The initial population was 1,675, covering approximately 80 acres bounded by Irving Park Road (south), Ozanam Ave. (west), Montrose Ave. (north) and Harlem Ave. (east). Norridge became a "Home Rule" Community by referendum on May 1, 1973.
The name "Norridge" was suggested by resident Mrs. Link, combining "Nor" from Norwood Park Township and "Ridge" from nearby Park Ridge. The village has grown through additions to now encompass approximately two square miles, with population expanding from 1,675 at incorporation to 18,043 by 1971.
