North Lenoir Water Corp. (NLWC) is a member-owned non-profit water corporation governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, with each Member serving a multi-year term. NLWC serves northern Lenoir County, extending from Kinston's city limits to the borders of Pitt, Craven, and Wayne Counties, with some coverage in Greene County.
This region lies within the Central Coastal Plain Capacity Use Area (CCPUCA), which has historically provided quality potable water from the Black Creek and Upper Cape Fear Aquifers. The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) imposed withdrawal restrictions in this area because groundwater was being depleted faster than it could recharge, causing steady decline in well water levels.
Major withdrawal restrictions began in 2008. To ensure a sustainable future water supply, the Neuse Regional Water and Sewer Authority (NRWASA) was established with NLWC as a founding member. NRWASA operates a surface water treatment plant on the Neuse River in Lenoir County and distribution lines serving NLWC and other member entities.
Since beginning water purchases from NRWASA in September 2008, water levels in all NLWC supply wells have recovered significantly. Currently, safe water levels can be maintained in each well, protecting this natural resource for generations to come. NLWC maintains approximately 420 miles of pipeline, 13 wells, and 5 elevated storage tanks with 3.575 million gallons capacity, serving around 15,000 residents. The dedicated team at North Lenoir Water Corporation works continuously to deliver high-quality water to every tap, and encourages all customers to help protect our water sources – the heart of our community and our children's future.

North Lenoir Water Corp Municipal Water Company and CDC- Is there a fee for debit or credit card payments? Yes, a 5% fee applies when paying by debit or credit card, either over the phone or in person at our office.
- What documentation is required for new service? Property owners must provide the Warranty Deed and Valid Identification for the property. Please contact our office to confirm the connection fee amount and if additional documentation is needed.
- What chemicals are added to our water? We only use chemicals approved by the National Safety Foundation for drinking water treatment. Our annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) lists all chemicals used in our treatment process.
- Why does my water sometimes taste, look, or smell unusual? Most water in our region comes from the Rio Grande River. Occasionally, algae and organic materials create a musty odor in the water. These odors may intensify when chlorine used for disinfection interacts with these organic compounds.
- Is my water safe to drink despite unusual taste or smell? All public water systems in Texas must maintain a minimum chlorine level of 0.5 (measured at system endpoints) by state law. We maintain levels between 2.0 and 3.0 at the source (measured at system entry points). Our chlorine levels are tested daily to ensure safety. Unless you receive a specific "boil water" notice during an emergency, your water remains safe for consumption.
- Why does my water appear milky? Recent repairs may have allowed air to enter the water lines, causing this cloudy or milky appearance. This condition is temporary and poses no health risk.
