THE NORTH PORT WATER TREATMENT PROCESS

The North Port Municipal Water Treatment Facility employs a dual-approach system combining reverse osmosis and conventional surface water treatment methods. Our comprehensive surface water treatment process includes:

  • Taste and odor control via powdered activated carbon (PAC) absorption
  • Coagulation using aluminum sulfate (ALUM)
  • Flocculation and sedimentation to remove particulates
  • Multi-media filtration through sand, anthracite coal, and gravel
  • Disinfection using sodium hypochlorite (bleach) with hydrogen
  • pH stabilization with sodium hydroxide (caustic soda)

Additionally, our reverse osmosis system processes water from intermediate aquifer wells through specialized membranes that eliminate salts and inorganic compounds. This purified water undergoes aeration for hydrogen sulfide removal before chlorination and blending with treated surface water for distribution to North Port residents.
