1. Are all public water systems required to provide CCRs to their customers? Only network water systems that serve the same people year-round provide CCRs to their customers. If your water provider is a non-network system, contact your utility for water quality information.
2. Does my public water system treat the water for cryptosporidium? You should contact your water system directly to inquire about their cryptosporidium removal protocols.
3. Does the annual water quality report indicate there's something wrong with the water? The CCR is a standard overview of water quality delivered by your community water system. This report lists regulated contaminants detected in treated water and their levels for the previous calendar year.
4. How do I find my city's water quality report online? Community water systems serving 100,000+ people must publish reports online. EPA encourages other systems to publish their reports as well. Many local governments have websites where reports can be posted. EPA provides links from its website to all reports it's aware of.
5. How do people served by non-community water systems get water quality information? If your water supplier is a public water system but not a community water system, contact the utility directly for water quality information.
6. I just received my water quality report. Is my water safe? Municipal water meeting national primary standards is generally safe to drink, though people with compromised immune systems and children may have special needs. Water quality varies by location due to different water sources and treatment methods.
7. How do I check for and remove radon from my private well? Each state laboratory certification office or State radon office can direct you to laboratories that can test drinking water for radon. For high radon levels, point-of-entry treatment is the most effective approach, using either granular activated carbon filters or aeration.
