About Us
The Roslyn Water District has been committed to providing safe, reliable water to its service area since 1910. As one of Long Island's oldest public water suppliers, we maintain transparency through detailed water quality reporting.
Our water system serves approximately 17,900 residents through 5,780 service connections across a 5.1 square mile territory. We draw water exclusively from groundwater sources via seven individual wells and one well field containing eight wells. These wells range in depth from 260 to 530 feet, primarily accessing the Magothy aquifer.
All water undergoes rigorous treatment processes before distribution, including pH adjustment with sodium hydroxide to prevent corrosion and disinfection with calcium hypochlorite. Select wells receive additional treatment through packed tower aeration and granular activated carbon filtration to remove specific organic contaminants.
Our distribution system includes three storage tanks with a combined capacity of 6 million gallons. Water quality is continuously monitored with hundreds of tests annually for over 100 potential contaminants, ensuring compliance with all State and County regulations.
The District is governed by a Board of Commissioners consisting of three elected officials who are residents of the service area. Our staff provides 24/7 service and responds to approximately 30-40 service calls weekly. We prioritize infrastructure investment and quality service without borrowing or paying interest.
For water quality concerns or questions about this report, please contact our Superintendent, Richard J. Passariello, at (516) 621-7770.

The Roslyn Water District serves multiple communities including the Villages of Roslyn, Roslyn Estates, East Hills, and portions of Roslyn Heights, Roslyn Harbor, Flower Hill, North Hills, Greenvale, Albertson, Glenwood Landing and Port Washington. Our service area covers 5.1 square miles with approximately 5,780 residential and commercial connections.
In 2017, the District pumped a total of 1.25 billion gallons of water, with August having the highest consumption at 191.456 million gallons and February recording the lowest at 50.457 million gallons. The peak daily usage reached 7.006 million gallons on July 21st.
For emergency situations, the District maintains eight interconnections with four neighboring districts - Old Westbury, Albertson, Jericho and Port Washington - providing backup capacity of approximately 2 million gallons daily.
Our infrastructure includes roughly 90 miles of water mains ranging from 6 to 20 inches in diameter. All water usage is digitally monitored and billed accordingly. The average annual cost per household is approximately $226.30 in taxes and $174.58 in metered water charges, averaging just $1.10 per day.
Unlike New York City, which relies on reservoirs and surface water, the Roslyn Water District draws exclusively from underground wells. Our rigorous testing program monitors for more than 100 potential contaminants to ensure water safety and quality compliance.
The Board of Commissioners consists of three elected officials who are residents of the District, ensuring local oversight and accountability. All revenue collected through taxes and water rates remains within the District for operations, maintenance, and infrastructure improvements.
