The Norristown Fire Department's mission is to protect lives and secure property through prevention, preparation, education, and prompt response. We are a combined department consisting of 55 Pennsylvania State Certified Firefighters, including 9 Chief Officers, the Fire Marshal, 15 career firefighters, and 30 volunteer firefighters.

Beyond firefighting, our department provides specialized services including Heavy Rescue Unit, Water Rescue Unit, Decontamination Unit, and Fire Police services. The department responds to over 1,200 service calls annually, with members dedicating countless hours to emergency response and regular training sessions.

Our department comprises four fire companies: Norristown Hose Company, Montgomery Hose Fire Company, Hancock Fire Company, and Fairmount Engine Company No. 2. We participate in the Pennsylvania Fire Service Certification Program and the Voluntary Rescue Service Recognition Program, which identify emergency service personnel whose training achievements meet or exceed NFPA standards.

We offer a Junior Firefighter Program enabling young men and women to begin firefighting careers at age 16. The department welcomes individuals of all ages interested in becoming volunteer firefighters or assisting with administrative duties.

The Pennsylvania State Department of the Auditor General supports our Relief Association through annual distribution of fire protection tax premiums, providing funds for injured firefighters, protective equipment, training, and insurance. We also participate in the Pennsylvania Water Rescue Accreditation Program, demonstrating our commitment to maintaining nationally recognized standards.
