The Village of Plainfield purchases Lake Michigan water from the City of Chicago. We encourage our valued customers to stay informed about their water quality. To learn more, please join us at the Village's regularly scheduled board meetings held at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month at Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street, in Downtown Plainfield.

The IEPA considers all surface water sources vulnerable to potential contamination. Surface water's nature allows contaminants to enter intakes with only dilution as protection, requiring treatment of all Illinois surface water supplies. Chicago's offshore intakes are positioned far enough that shoreline impacts aren't typically a concern for water quality, though contamination potential exists during wet-weather flows and river reversals. Additionally, crib structures may attract waterfowl, gulls, and terns, concentrating waste at intakes and compromising source water. Shore intakes, however, remain susceptible to stormwater runoff, marinas, and shoreline contaminants due to groundwater influx to the lake.

Water Conservation in Plainfield
The Village enforces year-round outdoor water usage rules:

• Even-numbered addresses may water lawns on even-numbered calendar days between 6-10 am and 6-10 pm
• Odd-numbered addresses may water lawns on odd-numbered calendar days between 6-10 am and 6-10 pm
• Hand-watering of gardens, trees, and plants is permitted anytime
