Plainfield Water Works
About Us
Plainfield has maintained stable economic growth through balanced development across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, complemented by infrastructure enhancements. Unlike some Indiana communities experiencing economic fluctuations, Plainfield's leadership has strategically fostered consistent expansion.
Residential Development
Plainfield continues to demonstrate a robust real estate market with homes selling rapidly. While single-family home sales slightly decreased in 2017, new construction remained strong. The Del Webb community accounted for over 25% of new homes. Development continued in Legacy Farms, and Bridlewood by Westport Homes (157-lot subdivision) was approved. The Springs at Saratoga resumed townhome construction while custom home demand consistently exceeds available lots.
Commercial Growth
The seven-story Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center represents 2017's largest commercial project, scheduled to open in fall 2018. Along with the nearby Palms banquet facility expansion, this development positions Plainfield as central Indiana's preferred location for conventions and conferences.
Downtown Revitalization
The Conceptual Downtown Redevelopment Plan was approved following extensive stakeholder input, providing guidance for developers interested in Plainfield's historic center. Other significant projects included a new St. Vincent's community hospital, Williams Trace Park spec buildings, Home Bank's new office, and multiple senior housing developments including Cumberland Trace apartments and Kinney Court.
Industrial Expansion
Plainfield reinforced its status as a logistics hub with several major projects, most notably the 892,620 square foot UPS facility. Additional industrial developments included the AllPoints 8 warehouse facility (708,230 sq ft), multiple spec warehouses ranging from 101,158 to 429,750 square feet, and Gem City Tire's 42,000 square foot facility.
Infrastructure Management
The town invested nearly $5.5 million in street construction, partially funded by state grants. Major projects included Hadley Road reconstruction, a new Saratoga Parkway/Concord Road roundabout, and traffic flow improvements in the warehouse district. Water conservation efforts saw the completion of automated water meter installations across 10,337 meters, while the municipal water treatment plants purified over 1.5 billion gallons during the year.
Community Facilities
The Richard A. Carlucci Recreation & Aquatic Center underwent a $2 million roof replacement and HVAC upgrade, improving energy efficiency. Splash Island Waterpark welcomed nearly 116,000 visitors, with the Recreation Center totaling almost 464,000 visits (12% increase over 2016). Park improvements included Franklin Park playground upgrades and new pickleball courts at Swinford Park, recognized as the finest in central Indiana.
