Tennessee Water Utility Companies

Is my municipal water safe to consume? Yes, our water meets all EPA health standards. We've conducted numerous tests for over 80 potential contaminants. As shown in our reporting chart, we only detected 10 of these substances, all at levels considered safe for consumption.

Where does my water come from? Your water is drawn from surface sources at Watts Club Lake. We work diligently to protect our water from contamination and collaborate with State authorities to assess vulnerability of our water sources to potential pollutants.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has prepared a Source Water Assessment Plan (SWAP) Report for untreated water sources serving this system. This report categorizes water sources as moderately susceptible, moderately vulnerable or slightly susceptible based on geological factors and human activities near the water supply. Rockwood's sources are rated as slightly susceptible to potential contamination.

For more information on Tennessee's Source Water Assessment Program, visit https://www.tn.gov/environment/article/wr-wq-source-water-assessment or contact the Water Program directly.

Why are there contaminants in my water? All municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more details about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

This report contains important information about your water. Please have someone translate it if needed. Para asistencia en español, favor de llamar al telefono (865-354-2894).

For more information about your water, contact Bonnie Fugate at 865-354-2894.

How can I get involved? Our Water Board meets on the fourth Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the utility office, 128 North Chamberlain Avenue. The public is welcome to attend these meetings.

Special precautions: Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, the elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk. These individuals should seek advice about water consumption, food preparation, and personal hygiene from their healthcare providers.

Lead in Drinking Water: If present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. While Rockwood provides quality water, we cannot control plumbing materials used in homes. You can minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking.

Water System Security: Following September 2001, we ask the public to report any suspicious activities at utility facilities to 911.

Medications in Water: Please don't flush unused medications. For proper disposal information, visit https://www.tn.gov/environment/article/sp-unwanted-pharmaceuticals.

Rockwood Water System Municipal Water Report Information
Rockwood is situated in scenic Roane County, nestled between Crossville and Knoxville. The community offers excellent access via Interstate 40 and Highways 27 and 70. The town's history dates back to post-Civil War era when Union officer and geologist John T. Wilder discovered iron deposits on Walden Ridge. He returned with northern investors to establish mining and processing operations in 1868.

Initially developed as a company town supporting Roane Iron Company workers, Rockwood was named after the company's first president, William O. Rockwood. As industrial operations flourished, additional businesses relocated to the area, expanding and diversifying Roane County's economic foundation. Though the community has evolved significantly since its mining origins, local officials take pride in the numerous amenities available to residents and visitors.

The City of Rockwood adheres to all Title VI Federal Requirements regarding discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in programs receiving Federal financial assistance. The city maintains compliance with Civil Rights Act protections ensuring no person is excluded from participation in, denied benefits of, or subjected to discrimination under any federally funded program.
