About Us
The City of St. Charles Water Division delivers safe water to approximately 33,000 residents throughout our service area. Our dedicated team of eight full-time professionals maintains extensive infrastructure including:
- Seven water supply wells
- Six storage reservoirs
- 221 miles of water main
- Over 3,400 regulators
- 2,700 fire hydrants
- 12,000 domestic service connections
Currently, our average daily water usage is 4.5 million gallons. Our highest recorded usage was 9,741,000 gallons on June 26, 2006. As required by state and federal regulations, we chlorinate and fluoridate our water supply.
St. Charles utilizes groundwater from two separate aquifers. Wells 7, 9, 11, and 13 draw from the St. Charles Sand and Gravel Aquifer, while wells 3, 4, and 8 tap into the deeper Galesville sandstone formation.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has completed a Source Water Assessment for our supply. This assessment identifies potential contamination pathways to our groundwater. For a copy of this information, please contact Public Works at (630) 377-4405.
Health Information: Certain populations may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than others. People with compromised immune systems, including those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, some elderly individuals, and infants may face increased risks. These individuals should consult healthcare providers about their water consumption. Guidelines from the USEPA/CDC on reducing infection risks are available via the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791) or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/.
