About Us
We're pleased to present this year's Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. This document is designed to inform you about the quality of water and services we deliver to your home daily. Our goal is to provide you with safe, reliable municipal water, and we want you to understand and participate in our ongoing efforts to improve water treatment processes and protect our water resources.
Where Does Our Municipal Water Come From?
Our water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. We purchase treated surface water from Community Water System, Mid-Arkansas Utilities PWA, and Lonoke-White Public Water Authority. Both Community Water System and Lonoke-White PWA source their water from Greer's Ferry Lake. Mid-Arkansas Utilities PWA purchases treated surface water from Central Arkansas Water, which draws from Lake Winona and Lake Maumelle.
Water Safety Assessment
The Arkansas Department of Health has conducted Source Water Vulnerability Assessments for our suppliers. These assessments evaluate potential contamination risks and help develop safety plans. Based on various criteria, our water sources have been classified with susceptibility levels ranging from low to high.
Potential Contaminants in Municipal Water
As water travels over land or underground, it can pick up substances including:
- Microbial contaminants from sewage treatment, septic systems, livestock, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants such as naturally occurring minerals or urban runoff
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture and residential uses
- Organic chemicals from industrial processes and petroleum production
- Radioactive materials that occur naturally or result from human activities
Health Information
All tap water may contain small amounts of contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. However, immunocompromised individuals, cancer patients, transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, elderly persons, and infants may be particularly vulnerable. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding their water consumption.
Lead in Municipal Water
Elevated lead levels can pose serious health risks, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. While we provide high-quality water, we cannot control the components used in plumbing fixtures. You can minimize potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking.
