Waialua Drinking Water Company and CDCHow can I check for water leaks?
Toilets typically cause the greatest water loss. Add a few drops of food coloring to your toilet tank, wait several minutes, then check if color appears in the bowl. Colored water indicates your flapper seal may need replacement. Your water meter has a leak detector dial - if it spins when no water is being used, you likely have a leak somewhere in your system.
How do I turn off water for home repairs?
The cutoff valve at the meter belongs to Saraland Water, though customers may use it. If damaged, you'll be charged for replacement. Building codes require all homes to have a shutoff valve on the customer's side of the meter. Saraland Water will turn off water during normal business hours, with after-hours requests incurring a service charge.
What's required to open a new account?
You'll need ownership documents or a rental agreement, plus a driver's license. Only the person listed on these documents can establish the account. All accounts require an upfront deposit that cannot be billed. New service connections also require payment of a tap fee in addition to the deposit.
What services appear on my water bill?
Bills include charges for Water, Sewer, and Garbage services. Questions about Sewer and Garbage within Saraland city limits should go to the City of Saraland (675-5103). Garbage service is provided by Allied (1-877-311-9783). For Satsuma residents, direct Garbage service questions to Satsuma Public Works (679-3182).
What's the billing schedule and payment policy?
Bills are mailed on the 1st of each month and due upon receipt. A 10% late fee applies after the 15th, and accounts unpaid by the 20th face collection or disconnection. COLLECTION BEGINS ON THE 21st OF EACH MONTH. Not receiving your bill doesn't exempt you from payment - if you haven't received it by the 5th, contact our office at 675-5126.
