Our City
Experience the charm of Warner Robins, nestled in Georgia's economically vibrant heartland. Strategically positioned within 150 miles of both mountains and coastlines, bustling cities and peaceful countryside, Warner Robins offers the perfect blend of modern Southern living. From traditional hometown values to contemporary entertainment options, combined with abundant resources and a dedicated workforce, Warner Robins stands as one of Georgia's most dynamic communities – truly an exceptional place to live, work, and enjoy life.
From Small Beginnings
Few growth stories rival that of Warner Robins. From a modest population of just over 50 in 1940 to more than 62,000 today, it ranks among Georgia's fastest expanding cities. Remarkably, the community continues to transform growing pains into progress and prosperity. Originally the small village of Wellston, located 18 miles south of Macon and 17 miles northeast of Perry (Houston County's seat), the area was primarily surrounded by peanut fields and cornfields with only 52 residents.
Military Influence
World War II dramatically altered Wellston's trajectory when it was selected as an Army Air Corps Depot site. Named in honor of Brigadier General Augustine Warner Robins in 1940, the community was officially chartered and incorporated as Warner Robins by the Georgia Assembly in 1943. Though post-World War II brought significant reductions at Robins Air Force Base causing many residents to leave, several hundred citizens remained, with former civil service and military personnel establishing businesses and becoming the backbone of the community.
Remarkable Growth
The Korean conflict prompted the Base's sudden reactivation, bringing an influx of people. The resulting construction and development transformed Warner Robins into a boomtown, with continuous growth since then. Now recognized as one of Georgia's fastest-growing cities, it has evolved from those original 52 residents to become the ninth largest city in the state. Current population estimates place it at 62,000, with over 75,000 living within a 10-mile radius. Today, Robins Air Force Base stands as the South's largest Air Force Base and Georgia's largest single industry, employing over 20,000 military and civilian personnel with an annual payroll exceeding 600 million dollars.
Local Attractions
Fully accredited by the Georgia Certified City Program, Warner Robins has implemented significant municipal improvements enhancing its appeal to potential businesses and industries. Georgia's "International City" boasts excellent schools, exceptional law enforcement, and one of the southeast's finest recreational programs. The city is renowned throughout Middle Georgia as an outstanding shopping destination with over 1,000 retail businesses within city limits, complemented by ample free parking – remarkably, Warner Robins has never installed parking meters since its founding.
