Ohio Water Utility Companies

In compliance with the Safe Municipal Water Act, Washington Court House has prepared this comprehensive report to inform residents about their water quality. The Washington Court House Water Department is committed to delivering safe, clean, affordable and reliable water services to our community.

This report summarizes several years of water quality data and includes important health information, testing results, water sources, and ways to participate in decisions regarding your municipal water. The annual precipitation in Fayette County averages 37.5 inches, with 2017 providing 50.03 inches – sufficient to meet all City water needs.

Our water comes from two main sources: Paint Creek (surface water) providing approximately two-thirds of our supply, and six water supply wells (ground water) providing the remaining third. Four wells are located behind the water plant in the North-end, while two wells are situated on the farm adjacent to the YMCA.

Safety remains our highest priority. City water infrastructure (towers, mains, wells & reservoirs) undergoes constant monitoring and examination. Our water plant operates at a 3 million gallon daily capacity, utilizing lime for softening, chlorine for disinfection, and filtration for turbidity removal.

The Water Department conducts over sixty water quality control tests daily to ensure your water meets all EPA requirements. While small amounts of contaminants may be present, this doesn't necessarily indicate any health risk. In 2017, harmful algae bloom (HAB) monitoring showed no detects in our reservoirs.

We maintain a proactive approach to operating our water distribution system, addressing challenges before they occur. Our annual hydrant-flushing program helps maintain adequate fire flows and water quality. All backflow prevention devices are inspected annually by certified technicians to ensure system integrity.
