About Us
We are pleased to present our 2014 Annual Water Quality Report. Once again, we're proud to confirm that our municipal water meets or exceeds all Federal and Utah State health requirements. At White City Water Improvement District ("WCWID"), we consistently monitor for contaminants following strict Federal and Utah State protocols.
WCWID is committed to providing safe municipal water, and we depend on our customers to help protect our water resources. Our Board and Staff continuously strive to deliver excellent water quality and service. Our goal has always been to provide a safe and dependable water supply.
All our wells are located within the District's service area, drawing water from deep aquifers. As required by WCWID policy and Utah State Division of Drinking Water ("DDW"), we actively test for contaminants as outlined in our accompanying Data Sheet. The DDW determines our monitoring schedule, and we're pleased to report zero violations of requirements.
The Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA") establishes guidelines, implemented by DDW, limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. Our Data Sheet shows these as Maximum Contaminant Level Goals ("MCLG") - the safety margin below health risk levels - and Maximum Contaminant Levels ("MCL") - the highest allowable levels using best available treatment technology. Our municipal water tests well below these established limits.
Though our tests show no contaminants exceeding health standards, DDW Rule 309-225-6 requires us to include this statement: Municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. This doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. Those with compromised immune systems (cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, some elderly, and infants) should seek advice from healthcare providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

After Mormon pioneers settled in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, LDS Church President Brigham Young thought it wise to name the valley, mountains and streams. The area was designated as the Great Salt Lake City of the Great Basin of North America, with the river west of the city called the Western Jordan.
The region from Big Cottonwood Creek to the point of the mountain was known as West Jordan. Jordan River country was sparsely populated initially, with Joseph Harker recognized as the first white settler to move "over Jordan" in 1848. Pioneer families constructed log cabins, primarily settling near the river bottoms or along the western hillsides. During that first winter, settlers gathered fencing materials from Bingham Canyon. By 1853, the West Jordan area population had grown to 361 residents.
