Utah Water Utility Companies

During the 2017 reporting year, your municipal water came from 15 wells and 4 springs. The City actively manages the surrounding land to minimize contamination risks. We maintain Drinking Water Source Protection zones that are approved by the State and protected through both City and County Land Use Ordinances.

All water from these wells and springs undergoes treatment and disinfection to safeguard against potential contaminants. Why might contaminants appear in your tap water? Every water source, whether natural or treated, may contain small amounts of various substances. These could be naturally occurring minerals, microbes, organic/inorganic compounds, or radioactive materials.

The presence of trace contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more detailed information about water contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791 or visit their website at https://www.epa.gov/surface-water-and-drinking-water/safe-drinking-water-hotline.

Water sources nationwide include rivers, lakes, streams, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or through soil layers, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and sometimes radionuclides, while also potentially collecting substances from animal presence or human activities.

Tooele City Water System Municipal Water Report Information

The Taylorsville-Bennion Improvement District is located six miles southwest of downtown Salt Lake City's business district, in the heart of Salt Lake Valley. The district is bordered by West Valley City to the north, Kearns to the west, West Jordan to the south, and the Jordan River to the east, covering approximately 13 square miles.

This area was first settled in 1849 by Mormon converts from England who followed church leader John Taylor. Brothers John and Samuel Bennion were invited by their friend John Taylor to establish this settlement. As their descendants expanded, they moved southward from the original settlement. These communities eventually merged as Taylorsville and Bennion, becoming what is now known as the City of Taylorsville, which was incorporated in 1996 and operates independently from the District with slightly different boundaries.

The District was established in 1957 as an independent water and sewer special service district under Salt Lake County regulations, responding to the essential water supply and sewage disposal needs of a rapidly growing population. In just 160 years, the community has grown from a few families to over 70,000 residents, with connections increasing from under 100 initially to approximately 17,000 today.
