About Us
This report provides insights into both mandatory and voluntary water testing programs implemented by the Town of Vienna to safeguard our municipal water system. The information presented was collected in 2016 unless otherwise indicated in the data tables.
Water naturally absorbs minerals as it flows across land surfaces or underground, and can collect substances from animal presence or human activities. Contaminants found in source water may originate from septic systems, industrial or municipal treatment facilities, agricultural operations, urban runoff, residential usage, and various other sources.
Surface water undergoes treatment to make it safe for consumption. All water sources, including bottled water, can reasonably be expected to contain at least trace amounts of certain contaminants. The presence of these substances doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. To ensure tap water safety, the U.S. EPA establishes regulations limiting specific contaminant levels in public water systems. Similarly, FDA regulations set limits for contaminants in bottled water. For additional information, contact the Environmental Protection Agency's Safe Municipal Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
