In compliance with State regulations, the Village of Williston Park Water Department issues an annual report detailing the quality of your municipal water supply. The purpose of this report is to enhance your understanding of municipal water and raise awareness about protecting our vital water sources.

Last year, your tap water met all State health requirements for municipal water quality. We're pleased to report our system maintained compliance with all maximum contaminant levels and water quality standards. In our comprehensive testing program, we analyzed over 100 potential contaminants, with less than 25% actually detected in our water supply.

The Village of Williston Park draws its water from local groundwater sources. Our treatment processes ensure this water meets or exceeds all safety standards before distribution. The water quality is regularly monitored through a series of tests that check for microbial contaminants, inorganic compounds, pesticides, organic chemicals, and radiological substances.

While the New York State Department of Health has completed a Source Water Assessment of our raw water supplies, it's important to understand these reports evaluate potential threats to untreated water sources, not the safety of your treated tap water that reaches your home.

Our water system serves approximately 10,635 residents through a comprehensive network of underground pipes and infrastructure. The Village maintains several wells and treatment facilities to ensure consistent water quality and pressure throughout our service area.

To ensure water safety, we conduct frequent testing and monitoring according to state and federal guidelines. These measures help us detect and address any potential issues before they affect water quality in your home.

Williston Park Municipal Water Report Information

Traffic safety remains a significant concern for our Village Board and residents. Many drivers, both residents and non-residents, fail to properly observe traffic signals, stop signs, and posted speed limits throughout our community. The Village maintains eighteen miles of roadways with numerous traffic lights and over one hundred stop signs, making comprehensive enforcement challenging.

To address these concerns, we've established a new Traffic Safety Committee separate from our existing Parking Safety Committee. All residents are invited to participate by simply making a personal commitment to improve their own driving habits. No meetings or fees are required—just a dedication to creating safer streets throughout our Village.

The Village of Williston Park encompasses less than one square mile with approximately 7,500 residents. While primarily residential, our community features two main commercial streets—Hillside and Willis Avenues—where nearly 300 retail establishments, professional offices, and other businesses operate.

Incorporated on September 8, 1926, our Village held its first election for Mayor and Board of Trustees on October 4, 1926. The Village Board continues to hold open meetings at 8:00 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, except in April when the organization meeting occurs on the first Monday.

Our water infrastructure continues to be a priority, with regular maintenance and testing to ensure all residents receive clean, safe water. We encourage all community members to review our annual water quality reports and contact the Village office with any questions or concerns about municipal water services.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a customer water service line?

The customer service pipe extends from the water main service stop (located in the city right of way) to the meter inside your building. This pipe is designed specifically to deliver water to your home's plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and showers. The line includes valves that allow your water to be turned on or off when needed.

Where are my shutoff valves located?

Your water service has two primary shutoff valves. The first valve, called a curb stop, is typically located near your property line and housed in a cylinder with a cap known as the curb box. The second valve is inside your home adjacent to the water meter. Additional valves may be located near plumbing fixtures throughout your home.

What portions of my water service are my responsibility?

Homeowners are responsible for maintaining the entire water service line from the connection at the water main through the entire home. While the water meter itself belongs to the Williston Park Water Utility, both the curb stop and the valve next to your meter are the resident's responsibility to maintain.

What is UV Disinfection?

UV disinfection is an advanced water treatment process that uses ultraviolet light to inactivate harmful microorganisms without adding chemicals to the water. This technology provides an additional barrier of protection against waterborne pathogens.

Should I maintain my water meter shutoff valve?

Maintaining your meter valve in proper working condition allows you to quickly shut off your water in emergencies, such as during a pipe break. Older gate valves should be turned periodically to prevent corrosion buildup. Newer Teflon-coated ball valves typically remain operational without regular maintenance.

What causes frozen water pipes?

Water pipes become vulnerable to freezing when outdoor temperatures remain below freezing for several consecutive days, especially when daytime temperatures don't rise above 0°F. Common risk factors include unheated basements containing water meters or pipes, uninsulated pipes against exterior walls, open windows near water equipment, cracks allowing cold air near pipes, and water meter pipes enclosed against exterior walls.
