Oklahoma Water Utility Companies

We're pleased to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report, covering all testing conducted between January 1 and December 31, 2017. Our primary mission is to deliver safe, reliable municipal water meeting all state and federal standards. We continually enhance our treatment processes and protect our vital water resources.

Is my water safe?
Your tap water met all EPA and state health standards last year, as it has consistently done. Our municipal supply comes from two well fields. The North field, 5 miles from town, draws from the North Canadian River Aquifer through 26 wells. The Southwest field, located 5 miles southwest, accesses the Ogallala Aquifer via 39 wells. Together, 65 wells supply Woodward's municipal water.

Special health considerations
Certain individuals may have increased vulnerability to water contaminants, including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or immune disorders, some elderly residents, and infants. These individuals should consult healthcare providers about their water consumption. EPA/CDC guidelines for reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbes are available via the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

Understanding contaminants
All water sources, including bottled water, naturally contain some level of contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate health risks. As water travels across land surfaces or underground, it dissolves natural minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and can collect substances from human or animal activity. Source water may contain:

  • Microbial contaminants from sewage plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic substances like salts and metals occurring naturally or from urban runoff, wastewater, or agricultural practices
  • Pesticides and herbicides from farming, urban runoff, and residential use
  • Organic chemicals from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
  • Radioactive elements that occur naturally or result from energy production and mining activities

  2. What causes water hardness in Woodward? The groundwater naturally contains dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium from underground rock formations.
  3. Is hard water harmful? While not a health concern, hard water can damage appliances, reduce soap effectiveness, and leave mineral deposits.
  4. Should I use a water filter? Home filtration may improve taste and reduce certain contaminants, though Woodward's water meets all safety standards.
  5. How can I report water quality concerns? Contact the utility at 580-256-2280 with any questions or issues.
