Wyoming Municipal Water Report Information

The City of Wyoming stands apart from typical urban centers. Rather than developing from a central settlement point, this community grew from its perimeter inward. Today, its downtown spans a bustling three-and-a-half mile stretch of five-lane 28th Street, one of the region's most heavily trafficked roadways.

While businesses dot the entire city, the highest concentration lines 28th Street. Wyoming City Hall is strategically positioned across from Rogers Plaza, Kent County's pioneering shopping mall. Early in its incorporation as a city, Wyoming officials selected the motto 'City of Vision and Progress' from numerous submissions – a choice that has proven remarkably fitting over time.

Wyoming continues to demonstrate exceptional foresight and development. The population steadily increases, making Wyoming Michigan's 16th largest community with west Michigan's third largest industrial tax base. Home to 72,125 residents, the city boasts diverse cultural foundations, seven school districts, varied housing from heritage to contemporary homes, diverse retail options, and abundant green spaces.

This growth occurs in a region characterized by pride, independence, and competitive development. Wyoming offers an ideal environment for Independent Retailers to flourish! The City of Wyoming's rich history dates back to its 1959 incorporation from Wyoming Township. Its balanced blend of established neighborhoods, modern developments, and extensive parklands continues to attract new residents and businesses to this thriving west Michigan community.

What is the CORE Program About?

The CORE program was established to ensure Flint residents understand proper installation, usage and maintenance of water filters for maximum effectiveness. CORE teams consist of local Flint residents who help neighbors overcome similar water-related challenges. Learn more about CORE through this video: https://www.Cityofflint.Com/2017/03/22/video-released-to-tell-flint-residents-approximately-center-program-and-people/

For filter assistance, contact CORE at 810-238-6700. Staff members will visit every household to provide educational information about Flint's water quality, filter usage, installation, maintenance, and other essential services available to residents. The CORE Program will continue operations through 2018.

How do residents check if they're on the tap replacement list, and why does the process take time after being added?

Applicants who apply through Habitat know they're on the list once they've met qualifications and submitted a complete application. Currently, installations typically occur within one week of completed application submission. There is no waiting list for our program at present.

Where can residents obtain water filters?

Call CORE at 810-238-6700 or visit PODS (Bottled Water Distribution Sites)

On April 6, 2018, State officials informed Mayor Karen Weaver and the public about plans to discontinue bottled water supplies and funding for water distribution sites (PODS) and Access and Functional Needs (AFN) home delivery services in Flint. State officials indicated PODS would close once current supplies are depleted.

Mayor Weaver responded: "This situation isn't one any of us wanted. We didn't create this man-made water crisis, so adequate resources should continue until all issues are resolved and all lead and galvanized pipes have been replaced. I'll contact the Governor's office immediately regarding this insensitive decision and to ensure awareness of additional needs I've requested for Flint residents."

As of April 16, 2018, Flint residents can visit Help Centers to obtain bottled water and related materials. These centers operate Mondays at Bethel United Methodist Church, Tuesdays at Asbury United Methodist Church, and Thursdays at Greater Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Help Centers function as "one-stop shops" offering FREE resources including lead-fighting foods and produce, fitness options, mental health services, personal care items, water filters with replacement cartridges, and informational resource packets about additional services related to the water crisis. These services are available to ALL Flint residents with NO ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA.

Residents can obtain free at-home water test kits from Flint City Hall during regular business hours. Regarding tap replacement, residents cannot collect and install taps themselves – this must be done through the official program.

For filter installation assistance, the C.O.R.E. program (Community Outreach Resident Education Program) operated by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality provides educational information through trained local residents. They assist with filter installation, maintenance, water usage guidance, faucet aerator cleaning, and information about available medical services. Contact 810.238.6700 to schedule a home visit.

Remember: Hot water should never run through your filter system. Manufacturers warn that hot water prevents proper filtration and may reverse chemical absorption processes, potentially releasing contaminants back into your water. Always use cold or cool water when operating your filter.
