About Us
The Water Authority has implemented a comprehensive water resources management plan designed to meet community needs for the next century. In September 2016, the Water Expert Board adopted this forward-thinking strategy with support from key agencies including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Interstate Stream Commission, Bureau of Reclamation, Army Corps of Engineers, and environmental groups like the Nature Conservancy.
The plan's core philosophy centers on optimizing existing water resources rather than pursuing new sources. Key highlights include:
- Building upon the community's successful conservation efforts, which have reduced usage while population continues to grow
- Maintaining a diverse supply portfolio including surface water, groundwater, aquifer storage and recovery (ASR), non-potable surface water, and recycling projects
- Developing new storage capacity through reservoirs and underground storage to support expanded recycling and stormwater capture
- Implementing groundwater management guidelines to preserve the aquifer as a sustainable resource
- Emphasizing environmental stewardship by avoiding acquisition of additional pre-1907 water rights, thereby preserving agricultural water supplies
