About Us
At AWWD, your family's health is our primary concern every single day. We recognize that clean water is fundamental to a healthy lifestyle. We understand that most water sources (both tap and bottled) can contain various contaminants. Water naturally collects minerals, potentially radioactive materials, and substances from animal and human activities as it travels across land surfaces and through soil.
To maintain safety standards, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Washington State Board of Health establish regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. Similarly, the FDA and Washington State Department of Agriculture set standards for bottled water to provide equivalent public health protection. AWWD diligently monitors these regulations and any emerging health concerns specific to our service area, conducting regular testing to ensure consistent compliance with these standards.
Our mission at AWWD is providing safe, reliable, affordable water. We're particularly committed to protecting your home from lead exposure. Lead is a harmful contaminant particularly dangerous to infants, young children, and pregnant women due to how it accumulates in the body. Working with the City of Everett, we treat and test your water to ensure it's lead-free when leaving our facilities and traveling through water mains to customers.
Some older homes in our community may have lead service lines or plumbing components that could introduce lead into household water. If you suspect lead in your home's plumbing, consider using an affordable home test kit, available online and at hardware stores.

The Wise County Public Service Authority (PSA) was established on September 9, 1969 to provide water and wastewater utilities to Wise County residents. Operating under the Virginia Water & Waste Authorities Act, the PSA is governed by an eight-member Board of Directors appointed by the Wise County Board of Supervisors.
Most PSA customers receive water from the Carfax Regional Water Treatment Plant, which can process up to 2.0 million gallons daily. Residents north and east of Pound may receive water from Pound's water plant or the John Flannigan water plant. The PSA maintains an extensive distribution network throughout Wise County, serving residents outside city and town boundaries with over 300 miles of water lines (2" to 14"), 13 booster pump stations, and 16 water tanks.
Currently serving over 4500 water customers, the PSA also supplies water to portions of Dickenson County and can provide water to most Wise County towns and the City of Norton when needed. Additionally, the PSA supplies raw water to the Virginia City Dominion Hybrid Power Plant for cooling purposes.
The PSA provides wastewater services to approximately 800 customers, with recent service expansions to additional areas. The authority primarily handles collection services (except for Exeter and Imboden), while treatment is managed by other entities including Coeburn-Norton-Wise Regional Wastewater Authority, Town of Pound, and Town of Big Stone Gap. Service areas include Stephens/Guest River section, Hurricane Rd area, Josephine area near Norton, Hamiltontown/Esserville area near Wise, and various coal camps around Appalachia.
