Tennessee Water Utility Companies

AUB's Water Division delivers municipal water throughout Athens and McMinn County. Our 2017 water quality exceeded the rigorous standards set by Tennessee state regulations and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. For questions, please contact Craig Brymer, AUB Water & Sewage Superintendent, at (423) 745-4501.

Board meetings are held monthly on the fourth Thursday at 5:00 PM. To be included on the agenda, please call AUB at least one week prior to the meeting date.

Water Sources: AUB obtains water from three key sources:

  • A long-established natural spring
  • Three wells tapping into the Oostanaula Creek basin aquifer
  • The Hiwassee River (through purchases from Hiwassee Utilities Commission)

Our filtration plant is staffed by state-licensed operators who work year-round to ensure your water surpasses all quality standards. AUB maintains a Wellhead Protection Plan, which is available for review upon request at our office.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has completed a Source Water Assessment Plan for untreated water sources. This evaluation assesses potential contamination risks to natural water supplies. AUB's rating is "reasonably susceptible" based on geological factors and human activities near our water sources.

For a detailed explanation of Tennessee's Source Water Assessment Program or to view the TDEC's report to EPA, visit https://www.tn.gov/environment/program-areas/wrwater-resources/water-quality/source-waterassessment.html or contact AUB for a copy of our assessment.
