Tennessee Water Utility Companies

Water system security is a priority at FPU. We understand residents' concerns about water safety and encourage the public to report any suspicious activities near utility facilities including treatment plants, pumping stations, tanks, and hydrants by calling 911 and then FPU at 931-433-1522.

Where does my water come from? Your primary water source is surface water from the Elk River. We also maintain an emergency secondary source of groundwater under direct surface water influence called Teal Hollow Springs.

Our mission is to protect water supplies from contamination. We work closely with the State to assess potential vulnerabilities. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has prepared a Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) Report that analyzes untreated water resources' susceptibility to contamination.

Water sources are classified as reasonably vulnerable, moderately vulnerable or slightly vulnerable based on geological factors and human activities near the supply. The Elk River source was rated slightly vulnerable while Teal Hollow is moderately susceptible.

To ensure safe water quality, our public water systems undergo treatment and regular testing. For Tennessee's Source Water Assessment Program details, assessment summaries, vulnerability ratings and TDEC reports, visit https://www.tn.gov/environment/program areas/or-water-resources/water-quality/source-water-assessment.HTML, or contact FPU for specific test results and Wellhead Protection Plan information.
