About Us
Elevated lead levels in water pose serious health risks, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead primarily enters water through service lines and home plumbing materials. While Atlantic Beach provides quality water, they cannot control the materials used in household plumbing components.
If your water has been sitting unused for several hours, reduce potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption or cooking. If concerned about lead levels, consider having your water tested. Information about lead in water, testing methods, and exposure reduction is available via the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
In 2017, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) conducted a Source Water Assessment on our system, identifying 12 potential contamination sources with low to moderate susceptibility levels. The City enacted a Wellhead Protection Ordinance to safeguard our water supply, and FDEP maintains strict petroleum contamination reduction programs with rigorous hazardous waste regulations.
Assessment results are available at www.dep.state.fl.us/swapp. We thank you for allowing us to provide your family with clean, quality water. Our team works around the clock to deliver top quality water to every tap, and we ask all residents to help protect our valuable water sources.
During the 2017 monitoring period, we were required to test for Synthetic Organic Contaminants (SOCs) in two separate quarters. While initial results showed no detection, we didn't complete the second required testing set from July to December 2017. Sampling was completed in February 2018.
