About Us
Municipal water sources include rivers, lakes, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or through underground layers, it naturally dissolves minerals and, in some cases, radioactive materials. It can also pick up substances from animal presence or human activities.
Potential contaminants in source water include:
- Microbial contaminants like viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants including salts and metals that occur naturally or result from urban runoff, industrial discharge, oil and gas production, mining, or farming
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban stormwater runoff, and residential usage
- Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants that may occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining
To ensure tap water safety, the EPA and California State Water Resources Control Board establish regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. State Board regulations also set standards for bottled water to provide similar public health protection.
The tables in our annual report list all water contaminants detected during our most recent testing cycle. The presence of these substances doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. The State Board permits monitoring for certain contaminants less than annually since concentrations don't frequently change. Some data, while representative of current water quality, may be more than one year old.

Beaumont Cherry Valley WD Municipal Water Company and EPABeaumont Cherry Valley WD Municipal Water Report Information
The history of Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District dates back to the late 1800s when the Southern California Investment Company, owned by F.P. Sigler, held the land that now comprises Beaumont and Cherry Valley. Sigler planned to develop a water distribution network to support subdivisions throughout the area.
In February 1887, Sigler filed his first subdivision, which eventually became the City of Beaumont. During the 1890s, Sigler's Southern California Investment Company sold all property, including water rights and infrastructure, to Murray F. Vandall in 1896. Vandall held the property briefly before selling to the German Savings and Loan Society of San Francisco.
The German Savings and Loan Society maintained ownership until 1907, when it sold to C.B. Eyer and K.R. Smoot. These gentlemen, through the Beaumont Land and Water Company, began developing water systems for the area's subdivisions. They established diversion points at Wallace and Edgar Canyon, and along the north line of sections 10 and 11, T2S1W, which marked the northern boundary of their 160-acre property acquired from Thomas Mellon.
Additional water sources included a small diversion in Noble Canyon and six wells in Edgar Canyon, grouped in two sets of three. Three wells were located at what's now called the Old Shop (elevation ±3,030 feet) near the current intersection of Avenida Mira Villa and Edgar Canyon Road. The other three wells were positioned approximately 600-1200 feet north of the Upper Edgar Canyon Reservoir (elevation ±3,650 feet) northeast of today's intersection of Wildwood Canyon Road and Oak Glen Road.
