Bossier City Water System Municipal Water Report Info

The Bossier City Water Treatment Plant was established in 1958 with an initial capacity of 6 million gallons per day (MGD). Originally designed as a lime softening facility, it directly processed water from the Red River. To meet growing demand, the plant underwent expansions in 1972 (to 16 MGD) and 1996 (to 25 MGD).

During the 1996 upgrade, advanced treatment technologies like ozone injection and computerized control systems were implemented to address challenges posed by new State and Federal Regulations. A comprehensive materials inventory analysis conducted in 2004 confirmed that Bossier City's distribution system contains no water lines with lead components.

The most recent capacity expansion completed in 2013 brought total production capability to 50 MGD. This upgrade incorporated low-pressure membrane microfiltration/ultrafiltration technology alongside ozone treatment and granular activated carbon processes to enhance finished water quality. Bossier City's facility remains the only treatment plant in Louisiana continuously processing Red River water.

Plant staff operate and monitor the city's raw water supply, reservoir, pumping stations, four elevated towers, treatment facility, water pressure, and distribution system quality. The facility is a member of the EPA-sponsored Partnership for Safe Water, a self-assessment program improving operator training, treatment methods, maintenance procedures, and management practices.

The plant's dedication to excellence earned it the distinction of being the first facility in Louisiana to receive the Five-Year Director's Award for water quality from the American Water Works Association (AWWA). The plant has maintained this honor for over a decade, most recently receiving the Ten-Year Director's Award in 2012, demonstrating its commitment to exceeding all water quality standards.
