About Us
Certain populations may be more susceptible to water contaminants than the general public. Those with compromised immune systems, including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS or immune disorders, some elderly residents, and infants might face increased risks from infections. These vulnerable groups should consult with healthcare providers about their municipal water consumption.
The EPA and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) offer guidelines on reducing contamination risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants through their Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
Water Sources: The majority of our supply is purchased from the John Flannagan Water Authority, which processes water from the John Flannagan Reservoir. Residents in Keen Hill, Jewell Shape, and Pea Plot areas receive a mixture from both the John Flannagan Water Authority and the BCPSA Run Gap Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The Kennel Gap WTP draws from three wells and processes water through membrane filtration and disinfection.
Source Water Assessment: Virginia Department of Health conducted evaluations of our water sources in 2017 (Kennel Gap WTP wells) and 2001 (John Flannagan Reservoir). Both sources were determined to have high susceptibility to contamination based on state-approved assessment criteria. The reports include detailed maps of assessment areas and inventories of potential contamination sources. These documents are available by contacting your water system representative.
