About Us
Water is essential to everyone's daily life. We need it for drinking, cooking, cleaning, sanitation, fire protection, landscape maintenance, and supporting business operations. As partners in water supply, the Butts County Water & Sewer Authority, City of Jackson, and Town of Jenkinsburg work around the clock to deliver high-quality water to our customers.
Whether ensuring adequate supply during drought conditions or maintaining proper pressure for fire safety and household use, our staff recognizes water's critical importance to community wellbeing. This water quality report covers all testing conducted between January 1 and December 31, 2016.
We're pleased to report that among thousands of samples taken throughout the year, there were NO violations of State or Federal Requirements. Both water treatment plants received the prestigious 2016 Gold Award from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals for consistent compliance with all state and federal regulations.
Our water comes from a combined surface water supply drawn from the Ocmulgee and Towaliga Rivers, both part of the Upper Ocmulgee watershed. Together, our treatment facilities provide approximately 800 million gallons of clean drinking water annually.
The Ocmulgee River water is treated at the Emerson L. Burford plant (capacity: 4.0 million gallons per day), which supplies 90% of system water. The Towaliga River water is processed at the Gerald L. "Buck" Stewart plant (capacity: 1.0 million gallons per day). Residents in the far southwest corner of Butts County receive water purchased from the City of Griffin.
