About Us
Unlike most of Southern California that relies on imported water, MCB Camp Pendleton's municipal water primarily comes from local groundwater resources. The base's wells supply water to all areas except San Mateo Point Housing, which receives water from South Coast Water District.
The base operates two distinct water systems:
- Upper Water System: Serves areas north of Las Pulgas Road (except the 43 Area and San Mateo Point housing), with supply from San Onofre and San Mateo River basin wells.
- Southern Water System: Serves the 43 Area and regions south/southeast of Las Pulgas Road, with supply from Las Pulgas and Santa Margarita River basin wells.
MCB Camp Pendleton maintains rigorous water quality monitoring protocols. The base conducts over 20,000 annual water tests to check for more than 200 different potential contaminants. This comprehensive testing helps ensure compliance with EPA and California State Water Resources Control Board standards. While most substances test below detectable limits, some occasional variations occur. The official water quality reports detail these findings.
